She is Mexican-American by heritage but has American citizenship. From the time she was a kid, she's always had a strong interest in playing activities. Gerina began playing golf after she was 15 years old. Gerina went to Goddard High School. In high school she won in the New Mexico Golf State Tournament. Her volleyball skills were also recognised at a national level. In 2003, she started studying at The University of Texas.
